Our very first Summer Show will take place Friday 15th and Saturday 16th July at the Magna Carta Arts Centre.
This will be the most fun week EVER! Growing up, show week was the absolute highlight of my year and I just know your kids are going to LOVE the opportunity to be on stage with an audience, as well as meeting all the other people in the MJSPA family, from other classes.
All profits from the show will be going to the Kevin Cruise Foundation. Set up by the incredible Martin Cabble-Reid (who you can see every year as the comic in Windsor Panto), the charity offers theatre and training opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged children. You can see more about the charity HERE.
Tickets must be purchased online before Friday 15th July
Parents here’s what you need to know:
-
The shows will be at 7pm on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th July at the Magna Carta Arts Centre.
-
Your child will be required for Technical & Dress Rehearsals during that week, as well as warm ups prior to the show. In short, other clubs and plans will have to take a back seat that week if you want to take part. There may be the odd additional weekend rehearsal in the lead up to show week too. We need full commitment in order to put on the best show we possibly can.
-
The amount of “numbers” that your child will be in depends on both their age and how many classes they take part in, but a costume will be required for each “number”. We will try to keep costs for these to a minimum, but please be aware of this necessary additional cost before committing. MJSPA covers all the additional costs of rehearsal spaces etc.
-
If your child only takes part in Drama, they will not be in any particular “numbers” however students will have the opportunity to appear in some scenes that occur throughout the show.
-
All students* will take part in the company finale (the final number at the end of the show), which will be taught and learnt during show week. *If your little one is in our Mini Modern, Tiny Tappers, or Baby Ballet classes, all of their numbers will be in the first act of the show and it is up to you if you think they will be able to stay until the end for the finale and their bow. Please let me know if you do not think this is possible.
-
We would love you to bring all your family and friends along to the show and we will let you know as soon as tickets are on sale. However, please be aware that you are responsible for looking after your child during the shows and for dressing them etc. They will be chaperoned by us to and from the stage only. You may wish to team up with other parents to allow you the opportunity to take turns watching.
-
Dressing rooms will be a shared open space in the gymnasium, so it is your job to set yourself and your child up with everything you need to dress them (clothing rails etc, dancewear, mirrors, etc). Toilets will be available for those children who prefer their privacy for changing. All “quick changes” will take place either by the stage doors or in the scenery docks… You will find out during show week if your child has any times where this is required.
-
Show make up is preferred, but not compulsory. We respect everyone’s decision making for their own child about what you are comfortable with. Because of stage lighting and audience distance, it can be hard to see facial features and expression without stage makeup. If you have questions about what this should look like, please just let us know! For girls, there will be set hair styles required for each number in the show.
-
It’s a big commitment taking part in the show and it will be super rewarding too. Please be aware that any last minute drop outs would significantly affect group numbers, so once you are committed, no last minute decisions to take a special deal on a trip to Spain that weekend please! If you’re in, you’re in!
-
If your child is not available for the show, don’t worry, classes will continue as normal and they will still learn the work/ graded material they have been working on too.
- If your child takes part in our Junior Musical Theatre class on a Saturday, please be aware that auditions for the lead singing roles in one of our numbers will take place after half term. If your child would like to be considered, but is not able to attend class on Saturday 26th Feb, please let me know and we will make arrangements. They need to practise and know the first verse of One Short Day, from Wicked (“There are buildings tall as quoxwood trees, dress salons and libraries…”).
